My grandmother died unexpectedly last Wednesday, 2 Mar 2011. After 57 successful years of marriage to my grandfather which produced three remarkable kids, she left to be with her Maker at 81.
Grannan was one of my primary influences in my love of food and flavor.
My family is beholden to the countless men and women who, in ways great and small, enabled us to be together, assisted in our preparation, and stood with us in grief, hope, and joy as we said our first real good-bye's to her.
This past week, surrounded by family and Grannan's friends, church, and Bible study, and all the food they provided for us with increased frequency and amount as our numbers rose, it hit me:
The best flavors in life are empathy, strength, humility, grace, faith, hope, and most importantly, love.
